Mistra Environmental Communication visual identity
One of the most exciting projects of the year was to develop a new graphic profile for Mistra Environmental Communication (Mistra EC) together with Azote. Mistra EC faced several challenges with its current graphic profile. To solve their graphic challenges, I created a uniform, clear and easy-to-manage visual identity that can be used and shared easily by different actors.
The starting point was to highlight co-creative research, transformation and innovation, with a focus on creating a consistent profile that clearly communicates Mistra EC's vision. Environmental communication is the study and practice of how people, groups and societies communicate about the environment and environmental issues, such as climate change, sustainability and biodiversity loss. The programme draws on a transdisciplinary approach that involves researchers from a range of disciplinary backgrounds as well as non-academic partners representing crucial actors in wider society to harness existing thinking, co-develop new insights and approaches and translate these into communication practice.
I designed a logotype that serves as the core of the visual identity and can be used on everything from presentation templates to graphic patterns. The logotype symbol draws inspiration from radar diagrams, signifying the program’s diverse focus areas. The asymmetric lines serve as communication nodes, metaphorically extending like ripples on the water, connecting with multiple actors and expertise involved in Mistra EC’s projects.
In order to optimize the user experience and ensure a seamless integration with the branding, I also made clear guidelines to assist them in making informed decisions regarding color selections. The color palette combines warm, natural tones with elements of innovation and transformation.
As a continuation of this project, Mistra EC’s website was also improved with a completely new design, better structure, clearer information about the program and methods, as well as new functionalities. See the new website here.
