SRC – Annual Report
I recently finished a big project in collaboration with Azote: the graphic design and layout for Stockholm Resilience Centre’s annual report. Working on this project throughout the spring has been both challenging and incredibly inspiring, thanks to the remarkable achievements of SRC.
The Stockholm Resilience Centre is a research centre on resilience and sustainability science at Stockholm University and their annual report covers key scientific findings from 2023 and trends that will shape the future of sustainability research and work.
It provides an overview of the Centre’s research areas, education and collaborations; from their MSc students to COP 28 and the executive programme, which in 2023, was given not only to business leaders, but also to the leaders of Sweden’s major labour unions.
Key design takeaways from our initial brief included:
– Emphasis on bold, brave, and modern aesthetics
– Exploration of new design elements
– Incorporation of the vibrant SRC orange
These principles became the foundation of my design approach for the layout.
SRC requested a bold and contemporary look that effectively conveys their story. I used the SRC orange with a multiply effect to evoke a sense of boldness and modernity. This vibrant color also enhances text legibility when placed over images. The recurring orange box serves as a graphic element, highlighting key sections and creating a cohesive and visually appealing design throughout the report.
Following the SRC graphic guidelines, the layout establishes a clear visual hierarchy with headings, subheadings, quotes, image placement, and captions. I introduced a bold graphite gray to complement the bright orange, using this combination to delineate chapters and incorporate a graphic pattern.
I am very proud of this project, particularly because the client was so delighted with the outcome. There is always something magical about holding the printed copy in your hands.
